The Christmas Story

By

Twas’ the Twas’ the night before Christmas

When all through the manger
Not a creature was stirring
     Not even a stranger

The straw had been laid
     In a corner with care
In hopes that a Savior
     Soon would be there

Joseph with Mary on a donkey he led
Had stopped at the Inn  in search of a bed
Mary and Joseph had come to be counted
They came on the donkey, which Mary had mounted

A star had appeared in the heavens
     That night
And all those who saw it were awed
     by the sight

The shepherds attending their flocks
     Were so frightened
That they stood transfixed while
     Heavens star brightened

When what to their wondering eyes should appear
But an angel (the Lord sent) which gave them Great fear
The Angel brought tidings to them of great joy
For this day in Bethlehem was born a Small boy

The babe safe wrapped, in swaddling clothes lay
In a manger all filled with sweet smelling hay
The people around Him had knelt on the ground
In awe of this infant a savior they had found

He had a sweet face that was joyous to sight
And in circling His head was an aura of light
That gave them to know they had nothing to fear
For a life, such as this was precious and dear

This was the greatest of gifts ever given
For through Him their sins would at last be forgiven
They knew right away, that there was a savior
Who had come to affect their lives and behavior

Three wise men came, having seen the bright star
They came from the east and had traveled quite far
The star shown over the place where He lay
And the wise men knelt down and worshiped and prayed

They somehow had senced this event would occur
And they brought Him, Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh
He spoke not a word, but went straight to the heart
And they heard a faint sound  as they left Him to part

The silence that filled all the earth
     Was so still
What they heard was Peace on Earth to
     Men of good will”
