Larry and Pearl Heringer
These two wonderful people are Larry, Patty, Janice and Tom's (my) parents. Our father was Peter Heringa's youngest son. Daddy was born in side the gates of San Quentin Prison, Ca., grandpa was chief commissary officer for the prison. After working for the prison, grandpa moved back to the Sacramento River area, first leasing an inn and then buying a hotel and inn in Rio Vista, Cal. After being in the hotel business he bought a couple of tug boats and he with his partner operated tug boats up and down the Sacramento River. The bridge that now goes into Discovery Park was moved there from Oakland by Peter Heringa and his tug boats.
Dad grew up in Rio Vista, finally moving to Sacramento where he graduated from Sacramento High school. Dad was a graduate of the University of California Berkeley. Larry Heringer Sr. was for many years an insurance broker in Sacramento and Pearl was a stay at home mom, except for a brief time of running the insurance business during WWII. Our father was an active member of the Masonic Order, as well as the Improved Order of Redman and did a term as their national president during the late 60's, he was also a member of the I.O.O.F. Mom belong to the order of Pocahantas, Rebeccas and was a member of the Eastern Star. Also you will find an interview by Bob and Pat Perry We were unable to do a lot of traveling and seeing different parts of the United States. On one occasion we took a train to Detroint, Michagan and then picked up a new car to travel back home. When we got to Seatle we visited with my sister Patty and that is when this picture was taken. We were crossing the Puget Sound to visit Victoria, B.C.
